  • Denel Overberg Test Range was established in the mid eighties as an integrated test facility with the flexibility to allow multipurpose applications.

  • The Test Range is located on the south-eastern coast of the Western Cape just east of the southernmost tip of the African continent at latitude of 34 South.

  • The three high-precision monopulse instrumentation radars provide the Test Ranges primary real-time tracking capability.

  • The Test Ranges control centre provides the command and control infrastructure required for test execution.

  • The Instrumentation Maintenance & Storage Complex in the foreground with the main Operational Building in the background.

  • The Test Ranges array of optical tracking systems includes six fully mobile cinetheodolites which are used to gather visual data of objects under test.

  • Two fixed and two mobile telemetry stations are available for real-time reception, recording and relay of telemetry data.

  • The four telemetry reception stations are equipped with two-axis auto tracking S-Band antennas of 8ft, 10ft and 15ft diameter.

  • Two German Tornados flying in formation over the Test Range during deployment to South Africa for a test campaign of the German Air Force.

  • Various measuring sites, many equipped with power and communication links were developed at strategic points for deployment of mobile measurement systems.

  • The availability of the modern Air Force Base Overberg adjacent to the Test Range is an added convenience to Test Range clients.

  • A Spanish Air Force F18 aircraft arriving at AFB Overberg for a test campaign at Denel Overberg Test Range

  • SAAFs Oryx multi-role helicopters are deployed during naval exercises for search & rescue, replenishment and transport of personnel to and from participating vessels.

  • The Skua high speed drone operated by Denel Dynamics is offered to Test Range clients as dynamic target service.

  • The Test Range has supported various major naval test campaigns and exercises to date.

  • An operator in action during testing of an air-defence single launcher unit against a simulated air attack.

  • High-speed video coverage of the Umkhonto missile launched from one of the Test Ranges launch pads.

  • The fifth-generation A-Darter short-range air-to-air missile launched from a ground launcher to test its characteristics in controlled response flight.

  • The Weibel Ranging Radar System is designed as a Multi Frequency Continues Wave Doppler Radar system.

  • High-speed video coverage of the IRIS-T surface-to-air missile tested at the Test Range.

  • A German Air Force Tornado during the Taurus 8 test campaign conducted at the Test Range.

  • The cinetheodolites are the most accurate offline position measurement devices available on the Test Range.

  • The main Operational Building with the control room from where tests are executed.
