Military Attachés from 22 countries visited Denel Overberg Test Range on 3 October 2016.

Military Attachés from Nigeria, USA, Cameroon, Argentina, Malaysia, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Peru, Romania, Spain and Zambia experienced the hospitality and beauty of the southernmost tip of Africa, when they visited Denel Overberg Test Range earlier this month.

The Defence Foreign Relations brought the 21 Military Attachés with their partners to Denel Overberg Test Range as part of their tour to military and aerospace entities in the Western Cape.

The visit included a presentation on the capabilities, facilities and the establishment of the Test Range in the mid-eighties, the final qualification in 1991 and its proven ability to manage and execute any combination of air, ground and sea flight tests.

“Due to the unique ecological area in which the Test Range is located, we remain committed to quality service within the boundaries of good environmental management. Before every test campaign all environmental risks are assessed to ensure no irreparable harm is done,” Mr Abrie van der Walt, CEO of Denel Overberg Test Range said. The combination of a large test arena, sophisticated measuring systems, adaptable infrastructure and year-round moderate weather currently makes Denel Overberg Test Range one of the most efficient and versatile test ranges in the world.

The Attachés visited the control room, the telemetry station and one of the pre-prepared measuring sites, to experience the high-technology facilities and the unspoilt environment.

While the Attachés visited the Test Range, their partners went to “Liefdesnessie” service centre for the elderly in Bredasdorp where they donated various food items to the centre. They interacted with the members of “Liefdesnessie” which the elderly enjoyed tremendously.

The delegation experienced local wines by visiting a wine cellar for wine tasting and also visited the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas.

The visit was concluded with a gala evening function at The Dunes at Arniston where they experienced excellent cuisine and service,

The group expressed their gratitude for the kind and professional hospitality of the Test Range staff and commented that they would return for a holiday to explore the beauty of the southernmost tip of Africa. This is once again proof that Denel Overberg Test Range is playing a major role in the Overberg and is promoting the area by bringing visitors to the southernmost tip of Africa.
